Our Story
A pottery studio on the waterfront in Cowichan Bay
A Hidden Gem on the Waterfront
Tucked away down a flower-lined walkway beside True Grain Bread Bakery, The Mud Room Clay Works sits right on the waterfront in the charming seaside village of Cowichan Bay, BC.
Step through the door and you'll find shelves filled with handcrafted pottery — mugs, bowls, vases, teapots, and more — all made right here in our small studio. Every piece is shaped on the wheel, glazed, and fired on site.
It's the kind of place you stumble upon and never forget.
Made by Hand
When you visit The Mud Room, you'll often find our potter at the wheel — shaping clay into the mugs, bowls, and vessels that fill the shop. You're welcome to watch the process and see how each piece comes to life.
Every item is one of a kind, shaped by hand and finished with our own glazes. From our signature yellow dragonfly design to deep ocean blues and warm earth tones, each piece reflects the coastal landscape that surrounds us.
Our Pottery
From everyday mugs to decorative pieces, each creation is inspired by the sea and the land around Cowichan Bay.
Cowichan Bay
Cowichan Bay is a small seaside village on the east coast of Vancouver Island, known for its colourful houseboats, excellent restaurants, and welcoming community of artists and makers.
The Mud Room is part of a cluster of shops along the waterfront — the perfect spot to spend a morning or afternoon exploring. Grab fresh bread from True Grain next door, browse the local shops, and take home a piece of handmade pottery.
